Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic structure design principles and show a desire to improve upon his/her talent while working under an experienced structures team on a wide variety of projects for DOT, counties, municipalities, and other transportation agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Sr. Structures Engineer/Designer to continue to expand your technical knowledge and improve your skill set by assisting with:
- Design of Bridge Structures that range from short span concrete bridges to long span steel or concrete bridges
- Design of Miscellaneous Structures in transportation such as signal mast arms, signal strain poles, overhead sign structures, box culverts, spread footings, retaining walls, slab supports and other various non-bridge structures.
- Field reviews; summarize field notes and photo logs.
- Development of reports, design calculations, and other engineering documents.
- Project meetings and project pursuits. * Develop proficiency in the following:
- Structural concepts, software manuals and criteria related to transportation structures
- Technical writing
- CADD * Use your interpersonal skills to coordinate with other disciplines and proactively resolve potential conflicts and concerns
- Use your problem-solving skills to propose innovative design solutions and approaches
- Grow your professional network by attending meetings with various clients and/or agencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Passed FE exam
- Familiarity with Microstation and/or AutoCAD
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree with focus on structural engineering
- 2+ years experience in structural design
- Experience with FDOT projects
- Experience with MathCAD
