What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for preforming highly complex technical assignments including field surveying, construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field test under the general supervision of the Senior Project Engineer (SPE) and/or Project Administrator (PA).
  • Review and understand contract documents including plans, specifications, design standards, technical special provisions, and other contract documents.
  • Monitor contractor’s on-site construction activities and materials entering the work site to determine that projects are constructed in reasonable conformance with the client’s construction contract.
  • Monitor and inspect for compliance the contractor’s work zone temporary traffic control as well as the erosion control devices for the stormwater pollution prevention plan.
  • Perform construction administration duties related to a Sr Inspector to document the contractor’s daily operations per FDOT’s Construction Project Administration Manual, other industry standards and the PA.
  • As needed, interprets contract plans and specifications in a fair and impartial manner.
  • Supervise, cooperate, mentor and train junior level staff.
  • Cooperate and assist the contractor, as needed, to facilitate the construction process and deliver a quality product in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as required by your direct report.

What You’ll Need

  • High school graduate or equivalent, plus four (4) years’ experience in construction inspection, two (2) years of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway CEI, OR an Engineer Intern with a Civil Engineering degree (requires certificate) with one (1) year FDOT CEI experience on road and bridge projects. A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.

  • FDOT Intermediate MOT; Nuclear Radiation Safety Certification; CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level I; CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I and II; CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I and II; CTQP Final Estimates Level I and II; Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors.
  • Certification and CTOP Qualification (Desired)
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Bridges); CTQP Pile Driving Inspection; CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including; miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures); CTQP Grouting Technician Level I; CTQP Post-Tensioning Technician Level I; IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I; Complete the Critical Structures Construction Issues, Self-Study Course, and submit the mandatory Certification of Course Completion form (for structures projects)
